More from Preparing Him for the Other Woman: A Mother’s Guide to Raising Her Son to Love a Wife and Lead a Family by Sheri Rose Shepherd
Chapter 4 is on teaching your son the art of affirmation. We can speak life and truth by teaching our sons to affirm a family. Bless our sons with words of encouragement, hope, and promise. God’s promises are more powerful than any mistakes we make! Thank you, Lord!
Every day tell your sons (and daughters!) that God has amazing plans for his life!
Ages 3-8
Set the example of affirmation by the way to talk and listen to your son.
Engage with him on his level – show him that you want to be a part of his world.
Make time for him to express his thoughts and feelings.
Encourage his excitement – Show that the things that matter to him are important to you as well.
Ages 9-13
Be careful what you say. Teach your son that what we say affects others. How you talk about men is leaving an imprint in his mind that will last a lifetime.
Teach him to ask questions. This will teach him the importance of connecting and showing interest in others.
Let him hold you accountable for your conversations. If you slander someone in frony of your son, don’t try to justify it; rather, apologize and then make it right.
Humble yourself. Ask him to help hold you accountable for your words.” This helps to set a standard of excellence for your son.
Our boys can become positive, affirming husbands and fathers. Let’s do our part to speak life into their lives now!

We are a mom’s group ministry of Ginger Creek Community Church in Aurora, IL. Our mission is to create a support system for women in the profession of motherhood. To educate and challenge them as wife, mother, and home manager while providing a safe place where they are valued and encouraged through a growing relationship with Christ. We hope this blog will extend some of this ministry to you.
